Delta Faucet Company has an extraordinary opportunity within our R&D Team for an Intellectual Property Specialist!

You will actively lead the Patent Working Group in the acquisition, management and defense of DFC’s intellectual property portfolio. You will have good working knowledge of US and International patent law, processes, principles and procedures to lead prosecution of new IP and protection and maintenance of existing IP within DFC and Masco. You will also conduct or coordinate ambitious and internal IP research and analytical services for new IP as well as the right-to-use. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining an annual budget to effectively lead IP expenses aimed towards providing maximum value of existing and new assets.

The role has a secondary function to develop ideas, concepts and new technology in support of DFC’s innovation objectives.

Principal Accountabilities:

Intellectual Property Acquisition and Management (60%) - Acquire and protect Masco and the Delta Faucet Company IP:

  • Lead the Patent Working Group and IP capture and development process to improve the DFC patent portfolio value
  • Insure IP rights are preserved for new inventions
  • Resolve continuation strategy of newly allowed patents
  • Lead lifecycle of existing patents; resolve value against annuity/maintenance fees
  • Conduct domestic and international IP research for prior art, patentability and right-to-use
  • Research and evaluate new and existing competitive products and patents (or lead such searches and evaluations) as required to support R&D projects and DFC business needs
  • Build or assist in crafting intellectual property by advising on patentability, assist in the preparation of invention disclosures, drafting, filing and prosecution and allowance of new patents
  • Prepare & lead the Intellectual Property budget in coordination with Finance and Masco Legal
  • Participate and contribute to patent infringement cases by providing technical/analytical and testing services, patent search and historical product background information

Technology Concept Development (40%) – Research, conceptualize and develop new technologies into product platforms that meet consumer and customer needs:

  • Research existing or new technologies that may have benefit to DFC products or markets
  • Development of existing or emerging technology concepts and inventions into functional and feasible models that meet performance requirements in a timely fashion
  • Develop product and performance requirements, specifications and test plans for new technology

Education and Experience/Skills:

You will possess a 4-year engineering or scientific degree and five or more years’ experience in consumer-based product development; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Working knowledge of Intellectual Property management is helpful. Have excellent interpersonal skills and be fluent in computer-based communication, design and analysis tools and software. Confirmed skills in past work assignments along with the ability to adapt quickly to priority or opportunity changes with ease are also required.
