Purpose:

This leader is responsible to plan, oversee and organize the scheduling, distribution and storage of components, raw materials and finished goods. Provides leadership and direction to help provide for the safety of associates, mentorship for daily and weekly departmental work performance, and assistance with developing and meeting short and long-term performance objectives and goals.

Responsibilities:

The Materials Manager supervises the cost, quality, quantity and efficiency of storage and movement of raw materials. This position is responsible for knowing the importance of providing a daily schedule obtainable for manufacturing and shipping and delivers on the needs of the customer. This position establishes and implements business strategies, plans and objectives. This position requires a positive working relationship with other Delta facilities, suppliers and customers. This position reports to the Plant Manager and manages Production Schedulers, Team Leaders, Material Handlers and Shippers.

  • Manage and allocate 30 Hourly and 2 Salary resources along with financial resources
  • Plan and execute customer teamwork meetings around Schedule Compliance, Allocated Late Orders and Shipping On-Time Metrics
  • Meet safety, quality and productivity targets in material handling and shipping functions
  • Effectively utilize the warehouse management system
  • Oversee between Operations and Material Services on daily priorities and address issues/needs as they arise
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement methodologies to find opportunities that improve execution and speed, and eliminate non-value-added activities

Education and Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Engineering, Logistics, Transportation or Business Management) required
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a warehouse and material flow environment along with competency in Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate and influence employees
  • Knowledge of Factory Planner, SAP PP/DS, and Manhattan WMiS desired
  • Knowledge and use of relational databases, such as Access, to run ad hoc queries and generate needed reports for analysis and business intelligence
  • Prior execution of major change management initiatives within a plant, such as a business process improvement, software implementation, management system development and deployment, etc.
  • APICS certification desired
